Township of South Stormont 2010 SPRING AND SUMMER Parks and Recreation Programs

South Stormont is pleased to announce a variety of events and programs taking place within the Township.

All of the following programs will continue to rely heavily on the support of local volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering please contact the Recreation Department at 613-534-2419.

REGISTRATION

IN-PERSON: All registration dates will take place at the Long Sault Arena. This is the best method to ensure the registration has been properly received and that you have received all of the required information for the start of the season.

- Thursday, April 8 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
- Saturday, April 10 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
- Saturday, April 17 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

BY MAIL: The Parks and Recreation Registration Form can be downloaded, completed and brought to any of the above registration events. In addition, you are welcome to complete the form and send a cheque via mail to the Long Sault Arena, PO Box 308, Long Sault, ON K0C 1P0.

If you are unable to make a registration date you will need to contact Kevin Amelotte to make arrangements. Any registrations received after April 17 might be subject to a waiting list. Don't miss out, register early!

Registration fees must be paid in full on or before the start of the program. Refunds will not be given if you have attended two or more sessions.

Programs will only be offered if there are a sufficient number of registrations.

If you cannot attend one of the registrations please contact 613-534-2419. The Association is looking for volunteers to help coach, referee, and deliver these programs.

PROGRAMS
South Stormont Minor Soccer:

Starting in 2010 all minor soccer will be played in Long Sault, more information will be available at the registration dates. The program will take place on Tuesday evenings from May 18 to July 27. Older age groups may be asked to play on Thursday evenings. Program cost is $55.00 per child or $45.00 per child for families with 3 or more registered children.

Based on the number of registrations, organizers hope to offer divisions to include youth born between 1995 to 2007. All divisions will be determined based on the number of registrations for each age group. Volunteers are needed to help organize the program and coach teams. Please indicate your interest on the registration form.

South Stormont Minor Ball Hockey:

There will be two youth divisions with those born from 1995 to 2002. The program will take place on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, cost is $75.00 per child, COACHES AND VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!

Long Sault Women's Ball Hockey:

This adult league takes place on Wednesday nights at the Long Sault Arena, Cost is $70.00 per player. For more information please contact Rox-Anne at 613-534-3913.

Youth Baseball:

Due to lack of registrations in previous years, those interested in baseball are asked to contact Kevin Amelotte at 613-534-2419 to learn of alternate opportunities in neighbouring Municipalities.

Swimming Lessons and Programs
(St. Andrews, Ingleside, Long Sault)

Registration for all red cross lessons and swim team programs will take place at the Long Sault Arena. More information will be available at the following registration dates.

- Thursday, June 10 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
- Saturday, June 12 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

ADDITIONAL PROGRAMMING NOTES
Babysitting Course (Ages 10+):

This course will be offered at the Long Sault Arena on May 2 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Cost is $45.00 (cash only) and must be paid to the instructor on the day of the course. Participants are asked to bring a doll or stuffed bear, pencil, small blanket, and a nut-free snack / lunch. To register please phone Elaine at 1-888-443-2027.

Safety (Ages 6-9) & Home Alone (Ages 10+):

These two courses will be offered at the Long Sault Arena on April 25. Safety program from 10:00 a.m. to Noon, and Home Alone program level 2 from Noon to 2:00 p.m. Cost is $25.00 (cash only) and must be paid to the instructor on the day of the course. Participants are asked to bring a drink and a nut-free snack. To register please phone Elaine at 1-888-443-2027.

Weekday Shuffleboard:

Anyone interested in playing shuffleboard at the Long Sault Arena on weekdays during the months of May through August are asked to phone Dorothy Barlow at 613-534-8242.

Yoga Lessons:

Upper Canada Basketball Spring Camps:

UCBA will host spring camps for girls currently in grades 4 to 9 on Thursday nights in May at the Lancer Centre. Registration for this 4 week program will take place on May 6 at 6:00 p.m.

Lancer Summer Basketball Camps:

Summer basketball camps for youth will take place at the Lancer Centre the weeks of July 5 and 12. Registration forms will be available at the arena starting April 8 or you can phone Bob Thompson at 613-537-8112 for more information.

South Stormont Minor Hockey Association:

Registration for the 2010/2011 season will take place at the Long Sault Arena in conjunction with the Spring registration dates.

Adult Volleyball & Softball Leagues:

Urban Poling (Nordic Walking):

A free clinic will be held at the Long Sault Arena on March 30 at 6:00 p.m. For more information please contact Donna at 613-534-2102.

Seaway Outdoor Bootcamp & Zumba Classes:

Ingleside Quiz Night:

This fundraiser will take place at R-O School on April 16. For more information please contact the Ingleside Library at 613-537-2592.

Long Sault Community Yard Sale:

Community yard sale will take place on May 29. For more information please phone Donna at 613-534-2508.

Mom-to-Mom Sale (CHEO Fundraiser):

This sale will take place at the Long Sault Arena on May 29 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. For vendor information please phone Loree at 613-932-1394.

Girl Guides of Canada (all ages):

Girl Guides of Canada meetings are held in Long Sault every Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m.

Sparks - exposes 5 to 6 year olds to a wide variety of activities and allows them to interact with other girls their own age. For more information contact Donna at 613-534-2508

Brownies - gives 7 to 8 year olds an opportunity to develop a sense of identity and a positive relationship with others. For more information contact Sue at 613-346-5460.

Guides - encourages 9 to 11 year olds to engage in their community through service projects. They will also gain understanding for the lifestyles of others in foreign countries. For more information contact Kathy at 613-534-3757.

Pathfinders - Offers choice and flexibility for ages 12 to 14. They will design and plan activities with the assistance of adult mentors, for more information contact Donna at 613-534-2508.

Karate Lessons (all ages)

Let's Dance Jazz School (ages 3 to 18):

Dance lessons will be held at St. Mark's United Church on Johnson Crescent in Long Sault on Tuesday Evenings. For more information on lessons or to register please contact Melissa Mason at 613-577-4870.

Saica's Melody Makers - Piano and voice instruction for all ages
