The Township of South Stormont has 4 volunteer fire departments / stations; they are as follows:

Each department has, on average, 24 trained volunteers. Training is an essential part of being an effective fire fighter. If you are interested in volunteering with the local fire department, please contact the Fire Chief directly.

The fire departments respond to fire calls, medical emergencies and vehicular accidents. Through Mutual Aid, the departments also provide assistance to neighbouring fire departments when required. In the event of an emergency, please dial 9-1-1.

In addition to maintaining their training requirements, fire department volunteers are also involved in education and fire prevention. Their involvement includes annual Trade Show exhibits, involvement at the Stormont County fair, the Antique Car Show, smoke alarm program, fire extinguisher program, fire prevention coloring contest and fire safety knowledge with the local schools, day care centers and an education program for seniors.

Recently, with the assistance of Grenville Mutual Community Support Program, the Township of South Stormont’s Fire Department secured a Hazard House simulator. The simulator will aid in local school fire safety training programs.

Fire Protection

The Township of South Stormont has demonstrated a positive political climate insofar as to the protection of life and property is concerned. Township Council has promoted positively fire services by providing personnel and resources to effectively protect the community. The Township has been active in expanding the fire service delivery by including defibrillation as first responders.

Fire Protection services covers an area of 509 square kilometers containing some 5200 structures. Latest statistical information indicates that in 2006, 266 calls were responded to by the 4 fire stations servicing the Township. This included medical calls, structural calls, vehicle accidents and miscellaneous calls.

The Township is proud of the almost 100 volunteer firefighters who are highly trained and led by 4 Fire Chiefs. Our Fire Chiefs place a great emphasis on training to ensure that the community continues to receive the high level of service it has come to expect.
