Please be advised that we are moving to the new Town Hall early summer. At such time, you may file your nomination papers at our new Municipal Office, located at 2 Milles Roches Rd. Long Sault. Candidates must file the prescribed Nomination Form, accompanied by the prescribed filing fee of $200.00 for Head of Council (Mayor) or $100.00 for all other offices made payable to the Township of South Stormont by cash, certified cheque or money order. Faxed nominations will not be accepted, as an original signature is required on all election documents filed with the Township. Candidates are required to show proof of identity and qualifying address at the time the nomination paper is filed in person by the candidate or agent. Each person who files a Nomination Paper will also be required to complete a "Declaration of Qualification - Council" or "Declaration of Qualification - School Trustee". Upon filing you will also be asked to sign a Personal Information Release Form. This will allow us to post your personal information on the website and on any municipally generated election information documents. No person proposing to be a candidate, may solicit or accept contributions for election purposes, or incur expenses, until a Nomination Form has been filed. Prior to 4:00 PM on Monday, September 13, 2010, the Clerk shall examine each nomination filed and if satisfied the person is qualified to be nominated and that the nomination complies with the Act, the Clerk will certify the Nomination Paper. If not satisfied, the Clerk will reject the nomination and as soon a possible, give notice to the person who sought to be nominated. The Clerk's decision to certify or reject a Nomination Paper is final. It is the responsibility of each candidate to ensure they are qualified to run for the office for which the nomination is filed. |
